ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- For the second straight academic year, the St. Bonaventure softball program notched the highest cumulative team grade point average in Division I with a GPA of 3.622 in 2006-07, announced the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

"I am proud of our softball program from our players to our coaching staff," said head coach Mike Threehouse. "The tradition of excellence that we have established in the classroom is a testament to all that St. Bonaventure University stands for. I would like to thank the faculty and academic support services that allow us to reach our goals, especially assistant athletic director for student services David Potter, our faculty athletic representative Dr. Denny Wilkins and my assistant coach Dr. Dave Matz."

This past season, the Brown and White finished with the program's second .500 or better record with an 18-18 mark since joining the Atlantic 10. The Bonnies' 18 victories rank third in club history. As a freshman, pitcher Sherri Thompson earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team accolades for her performance in the circle.

In her junior year, Brianna Bricker helped set the tone for the Brown and White in the classroom, earning multiple honors for her academic performance. Bricker was named to the A-10 Academic All-Conference team as well as ESPN the Magazine's Academic All-District team.

Members of the 2007 team included: Bricker, Blair Freeman, Caitlin Grattan, Jessica Jaynes, Christine Keleher, Amanda Kotz, Ashley Kotz, Patricia McKeon, Anna Nagro, Stephanie Narde, Kathryn Pazda, Kirstin Strong, Andrea Swanger, Thompson and Caitlin Tydings.

"The softball program is proud to be a member of a successful and outstanding athletic department that has proven over and over its dedication and excellence to the highest academic standards," said Threehouse.

The University of Rio Grande (3.648) and Grand Canyon University (3.633) led their respective divisions, NAIA and D-II, for the second straight year.
