UMass Wins 10th Straight A-10 Rowing Title

PENNSAUKEN, NJ - The University of Massachusetts won its 10th Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship title in as many years this afternoon on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ. The 10-championship title streak is the longest in any sport in Atlantic 10 history.

The Minutewomen won three of nine races in posting 45 total points. Dayton placed second with 39 points - the highest finish ever for the Flyers at the Atlantic 10 Championship. George Washington was third with 36 points and Rhode Island finished fourth with 24 points. The Rams were followed by Fordham (23 points), Saint Joseph's (23 points), Duquesne (13 points), Temple (12 points), and La Salle (0 points).

UMass won gold in the Quad (7:30.7), Varsity 4 (8:30.1), and Varsity 8 (6:59.3) en route to the team title. George Washington won three events - Novice 8-A (7:31.3), Novice 8-B (7:47.3), and 2nd Varsity 8 (7:19.9). Dayton captured first in the Lightweight 4 (8:48.4) and Lightweight 8 (7:30.6). Saint Joseph's won the Novice 4 in 8:32.9.

No meet records were eclipsed.

For the seventh time in 10 years, Massachusetts' Jim Dietz was named Coach of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches. Dietz was previously honored in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003, and 2004.
