Lacrosse Notebook - Week 4

(WEEK 4) - Duquesne has won two of its last three contests to move to 2-6 on the season. The Dukes are coming off a 16-7 win at Cincinnati on Mar. 16. Freshman goalkeeper Liz Walker (Sewickley, Pa.) earned her second straight Rookie of the Week honor after capturing her second collegiate win with ten saves and nine ground balls. her GAA dropped from 9.15 to 8.58 ... George Washingon picked up its first win of the season, a 15-9 win over Mt. St. Mary's on Mar. 12. Sophomore attack Mia Breheny (Alexandria, Va.) scored a career-high six points on four goals and two assists in the win. She had a hat trick in the span of 9:26 minutes ... La Salle dropped to 0-6 overall after a 21-11 loss at Columbia on Mar. 14. Senior attack Emily Bonczek (Henrietta, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals. She leads the Conference with 5.00 goals per game ... Massachusetts has dropped its last six straight contests. The Minutewomen are 1-6 on the season after a 18-2 loss at #1 Northwestern on Mar. 16. Senior attack Melynda Zewick (Holland, Pa.) notched the first goal of the first half for UMass ... Richmond suffered a tough 11-10 loss at James Madison to fall to 2-6 on the season. Junior midfielder Mandy Friend (Canandaigua, N.Y.) led the Spiders in scoring with five goals and four assists for nine points on teh week in the JMU loss and a loss at #2 Maryland on Mar. 12. She picked up seven draw controls and six ground balls ... St. Bonaventure opened its season at 1-3 with its lone win coming at Canisius, 11-10, on Mar. 11. Senior attack Megan Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.) notched two goals in the contest including the game-winner. Senior attack Brenna Houghton (Manlius, N.Y.) leads the team in scoring so far with nine goals and eight assists for 17 points ... Saint Joseph's moved to 4-2 on the year with a 12-2 win over cross-town rival Villanova on Mar. 12. Sophomore midfielder Jenna Martino (Oceanport, N.J.) led the team with three goals and an assist for four points. She has 19 goals and 22 points on the season to lead the Hawks ...  Temple boasts a 3-2 winning record after a 2-0 week in California. The Owls captured a 17-4 win at Saint Mary's and a 12-9 win at UC Davis on Mar. 11 and 13, respectively. Senior midfielder Whitney Richards (Southampton, Pa.) earned Player of the Week honors after notching 11 goals and an assist for 12 points in the two wins.
