LA SALLE kicked off its Conference schedule with an Oct. 5 road victory against Rhode Island. The Explorers erupted for three second half goals in the 3-0 win; highlighted by Ellen Axelsen's (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) seven first half saves en route to her second shutout of the year. On Oct. 7, La Salle was denied its third straight victory with a 2-0 loss at Massachusetts. The loss drops the Explorers to 8-7 on the year and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10.
MASSACHUSETTS picked up a pair of victories over the weekend and is one of two teams with unblemished Conference record at 2-0. After a 4-0 shutout against La Salle on Oct. 5, a game that saw Cher King (Christ Church, Barbados) score her team-leading seventh goal of the season, the Minutewomen picked up 2-0 victory over La Salle on Oct. 7. Senior Becky Letourneau (Greenfield, Mass.) earned her second straight victory in goal, recording a total of six saves in the two contests. UMass is 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play for the first time since 2001.
RHODE ISLAND overcame a 3-0 shutout loss to La Salle on Oct. 5 to blank West Chester, 2-0 on Oct. 7. Jen Cetenich (Seekonk, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal less than nine minutes into the game. M.J. Britt (Swoyersville, Pa.) made ten stops in goal for URI, earning her Conference-leading fourth shutout of the season. Britt also leads the A-10 with 1.00 goals against average.
RICHMOND'S dominance against A-10 opponents continued with a 2-1 victory at Temple on Oct. 5. The five-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion Spiders have beaten Temple in all 13 meetings between the two schools. Richmond's momentum carried over on Oct. 7 as sophomore Adrian Pickar (Ijamsville, Md.) scored two goals, lifting the Spiders over Saint Joseph's, 3-2. Richmond, who has won 44-straight games against Atlantic 10 opponents, improves to 2-0 in conference play.
SAINT JOSEPH'S earned a 2-1 victory in its Oct. 5 Conference opener against Saint Louis. Sophomore midfielder Anne Schreuders (Utrecht, Netherlands) scored her first goal of the season on a penalty corner opportunity with just under five minutes to go in regulation, sealing the victory for the Hawks. On Oct. 7, SJU fell to Richmond, 3-2, to even their overall record at 6-6 and 1-1 in the A-10.

SAINT LOUIS was downed in its first two conference matches of 2007, first with a 2-1 loss to Saint Joseph's on Oct. 5. SLU goalkeeper Amy Wasserman (St. Louis, Mo.) registered 14 saves in the contest. A loan goal from Jacklyn McGranahan (Bay Village, Ohio) was not enough as visiting Temple beat Saint Louis, 3-1 on Oct. 7. The loss is the seventh straight for the Billikens, with the team scheduled to play La Salle and West Chester next weekend.
TEMPLE, after losing their Conference-opener to visiting Richmond on Oct. 5, bounced back with a 3-1 victory at Saint Louis on Oct. 7. Senior Alli Lokey (Bainbridge, Pa.) scored all three goals in the Owls' victory. With the hat trick, Lokey leads the A-10 in goals (10), points (27), and shots (85).
WEST CHESTER was held scoreless in each of its Conference games, falling first to Massachusetts, 4-0 on Oct. 5 and 2-0 to Rhode Island on Oct. 7. The losses drop West Chester to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the A-10. The Golden Rams will be on the road on Oct. 12 at Richmond, followed by an Oct. 14 at home against Saint Louis.
