Dayton And Charlotte End Seasons In WNIT

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Dayton and Charlotte both ended their seasons in first round WNIT action. Dayton fell at Bowling Green, 64-52, and host Charlotte lost to VCU, 80-67, in WNIT play.

Visiting Dayton (25-8) saw the best season in school history come to an end on Thursday to Bowling Green, 64-52, in the first round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament.

Dayton was led by senior Nikki Oakland who finished with 14 points and seven boards. She was complemented by classmate Karah Cloxton who also had 14 points in the game.

The Charlotte 49ers (18-14) had three players score in double-figures led by freshman Shannon McCallum's 18 points but it was not enough as the 49ers saw their season end with an 80-67 loss to the VCU Rams in the first round of the WNIT in Halton Arena, Saturday. The 49ers season was capped off by their school-record sixth straight postseason tournament appearance.

McCallum led the 49ers in scoring for the fifth time this season with her 18 points with 13 of those points coming in the second half. Junior Danielle Burgin added 15 points and a team game-high seven rebounds. Sophomore Erin Floyd rounded out the 49ers double-figure scorers with 12 points. Senior Sabrina Gregory scored six points and recorded six assists and three steals in her final collegiate game.
