PHILADELPHIA, PA - The third Golf World/NIKE Golf Division I Coaches' Poll of the fall season was recently released by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) with Charlotte sitting atop the list as the nation's best team. The 49ers replace Stanford as the number one team, earning 11 of the 22 first-place votes.
Charlotte had been #1 by Golfweek since Sept. 25 and Golfstat since Oct. 5. Golfworld had not released a poll since its Sept. 16th poll that had the 49ers No. 9, which was prior to their win at the GolfWeek Preview.
The number one ranking for the 49ers golf team is the highest for any program in Charlotte 49ers history. The 49ers men's soccer team was ranked #2 in the country in the ISAA Coaches Poll, Oct. 19, 1992.
The 49ers have won all three of their tournaments this season, including a victory at this week's event, The Prestige. The Cardinal has dropped to the ninth spot. Rounding out the top-five are Alabama (No. 2), Oklahoma State (No. 3), Georgia Tech (No. 4) and Georgia (No. 5).
