PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior outfielder Brad McElroy of Charlotte has been named a first-team Louisville Slugger preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball. Among members of the first-team, McElroy joins a who's-who of players across the nation that are projected to have outstanding years in the 2008 season.
Last year, McElroy hit .401 for the Niners, becoming only the sixth player in team history to eclipse the .400 plateau. He led the Atlantic 10 in hits (97), doubles (26) and RBI (68). He finished in the top 50 players in the nation last year in batting average, RBI, doubles per game and slugging percentage. His season earned him third-team All-America Honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He was listed on the American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region Team. He was also a first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection as well as an A-10 All-Championship team selection.
The Niners set a school record with 49 wins in 2007, winning a pair of NCAA Regional games, the first-ever postseason wins in program annals. The 2008 season begins for Charlotte in a completed Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium on Friday, Feb. 22, when Charlotte hosts Manhattan at 4:00pm.
