PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle cross country standouts Carolyn Lipovsky, Rachel Papin and Danielle Schopf were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Divison I All-Academic teams, it was announced on Thursday.
To earn All-Academic individual honors, runners were required to have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and also place in the top 15 or top 10 percent of an NCAA regional meet. Seventy-six individuals earned All-Academic honors for the 2006 cross country season.
Papin posted a time of 20:59.03 at the NCAA Regionals on Nov. 11 at Lock Haven on the 6K course to finish eighth overall. The Philadelphia, PA, native became the league's first-ever three-time women's champion on Oct. 28 in leading La Salle to its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship. She made her econd straight appearance at the NCAA Championships.
Schopf and Lipovsky finished fifth and sixth, respectively, at the 2006 A-10 Championships and garnered first-team All-Conference honors.
An amazing total of 145 teams received Division I Women's All-Academic Cross Country Team honors for the 2006 season, including Dayton, La Salle and Richmond. To be honored as an All-Academic Team, teams were required to compete in an NCAA regional meet and have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0. The UD and Richmond men's teams were also honored for their achivement.
