PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Charlotte has been selected to win the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship, while Richmond was picked to capture the women's title in voting conducted by the Conference's head coaches.
The defending champion 49ers topped Xavier, 4-3, to win their first-ever Conference Championship last season. Xavier was tabbed to finish second, while George Washington was picked to finish third. St. Bonaventure and Duquesne finished fourth and fifth in the voting, respectively.
The Richmond women will look to capture their fifth consecutive A-10 title after downing Temple, 4-0, in the finals of the 2007 Championship. Charlotte has been predicted to finish second and Temple third. Massachusetts and Xavier round out the women's top five.
The 2008 Atlantic 10 Tennis Championships will be held at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. The men will compete April 4-6, while the Women's Championship will take place April 18-20.
